My dad had four(4), LaSalles. 1-1937 and three(3), '39's. All sedans. I came home from the hospital in the '37. After dad passed mom thought I would want it, but instead I opted for a '39 that he had disassembled and had worked on thru the years. I had planned on semi hot-rodding, (not something any one here or my dad would've liked) , but now I'm probably just going to sell. I'm pretty sure I can locate most if not all of the parts. My younger brother claimed the '37 and has a title for it. He said he has the other titles also, I have not seen them. In doing some reading here, I understand the vin on a '39 would be on a plate, on the frame, behind left front wheel. Guess what? There is none and doesn't appear the ever had been any. There is a plate on the fire wall with four lines and the following info.
Style# 39-5019
Body#    15558
Trim#          33
Paint#          51
So my questions are; 1) Is there any other location for the vin#?
2) what would the approximate asking price be(car and parts have been in dry storage for over 60+ years).
Any help appreciated. Thank you John

Hi John,

The (whole) VIN would actually be stamped on the engine block, behind the left cylinder head and near where the block and transmission meet - assuming the original engine is still in the car.  The stamping might be very faint, I needed a very bright light to see it.  In these years, the "VIN" was the engine serial number.

The frame would also be stamped with a portion of the engine serial number, the stamping would be face up across from the left cylinder head, stamped directly on the frame rail.  Usually you have to wire brush and clean up any oil residue to see it.

Value is a wild card, that will depend mostly on condition and completeness.
