Firing order question

I replaced the plugs, cap, rotor on my car, and when I did my spark plug wires at the cap, I did them one at a time, to make sure I didn't goof.

They are on exactly as the old ones were.

Then, as I was looking at the tune up section in my service manual, I noticed that, yes, I have the correct firing order, but  my #1 plug wire is not where the #1 wire is in the picture in my manual. Does it really make any difference, as long as the firing order is correct? And why would a previous mechanic have changed the location of the #1 wire? Would there be any logical reason to do that?

Doesn't make any difference where the wiring sequence starts, so long as the rotor is pointing at that area of the cap when on TDC at the correct advance.

Someone might have had your distributor out, and when putting it back, couldn't get it to align with the oil pump drive, as well as where the factory shows the lead to be.

The ignition doesn't care where the leads are, just that the firing order is correct.
