One of the Cadillac Lyriq Battery Modules if you care.

How many does it have?

Weight per module?  What are the dimensions?

Can we soak them in water and watch what happens?   >:D

I could probably get some of that information.

We took apart ten electric vehicle batteries after a hurricane flood. One Tesla Model X had busted windows and still had branches and mud inside the vehicle. Of the ten 4 were fine and six had minor damage. Only three were bricked by their controlling electronics.

Insurance Institute of Highway safety paid us for that study.

Thanks for sharing.  We saw a Tesla being flatbedded on the highway recently and something didn't look 'right'.  While my husband drove I researched 'how to transport a Tesla' and it was interesting. No, the pop-out hooks are not meant for securing the vehicle during transport.

'All' Tesla approved tow companies are required to complete training in advance and utilize only wheel straps.  Ooops, guess this one wasn't paying attention in class or was AWOL.

Carl,

I love the look of the Cadillac Lyriq - me wants one.

However, the new all electric Mercedes AA+ model is something to think about.
Check it out on YouTube - see below.

Have fun,

These earlier Tesla were nearly AA size.

Then a little bigger.

Before the 4680 cells in New model Y and Cybertruck.

The smaller cells are used in high performance because they are easier to cool. The larger cells are better for energy density.

The GM ultium was using pouch cells not cylindrical. But I believe they have now changed there mind and want to use both technologies.

It is nice to have commonality and mass scale production. But it makes more sense to match the most efficient battery style and chemistry to the vehicle conditions and required performance.

Carl, were any of the salvaged vehicles flooded with salt water, here Florida several homes burned to the ground (or at least the water level) when the Tesla went up in flames as it was sitting in salt water?

Clewisiii

They all came from the gulf. Not entirely sure but I assume.

You can never fully assume or attribute many things. But here is an interesting number.

Data from the National Transportation Safety Board showed that EVs were involved in approximately 25 fires for every 100,000 sold. Comparatively, approximately 1,530 gasoline-powered vehicles and 3,475 hybrid vehicles were involved in fires for every 100,000 sold.

This spring when I was standing in the office of the Service Manager of the Cadillac Deale here in Lake Wales Florida paying for my 1968 DeVille's Climate Control recharge a man came in next to me and announced his new Lyriq had just been towed in. Why I don't know however if I had payed all that money for a car I would have told them to keep it. One Mans opinion.

Speaking of Cadillac EVs, I stumbled across this cute yellow one in northern Michigan

Who let that out. I spent two years working as the interior feasibility person for that car. All but the seats. We were OK to Tool almost three years ago.  I know the plant did not like it because they tooled up and dedicated the space to make the interior then waited for years before they could start producing anything.

I told one of the designers in the studio that the rear end reminded me of the mid 80s Seville.  He got offended and said what not a cimarron. I said no look at it it is the seville.

I know at the time the Celestiq was going to be invite only for purchase. I dont know if it was true but I was told Lenny Kravitz was the first on the list to own one.

Sometimes those designers have no clue about the past. I have myself difficulties to associate the rear from the yellow car with a mid 80s Seville!

It is the raised trunk that does it to me.

Love the bustle-back style Cadillac but this is what I am seeing.

It's one thing when a car catches fire as the result of a crash; it's another thing when a car spontaneously combusts while parked for no apparent reason and is extremely difficult to extinguish. An EV fire burns much hotter and can last for days leading to higher collateral damage to other vehicles and property in the immediate vicinity. Also are there are far more dangerous toxins being released into the environment, especially when the burn duration lasts much longer. An EV can even burn while completely submerged. No ICE will do that.

Bill are we not lucky to be in Florida where the dealer will service your car. In Northern Virginia the largest Cadillac dealer will not service any car that has the first generation plug in for the computer or older, even if it was sold new there. My service adviser had to tell several of my friends not to bring their cars there any more. I believe they have cut off any service work on cars model year 2011 and older only because my neighbor told me he took in his DTS and they said they could not work on it. You are lucky to have a dealer that will charge your AC.
