Like a good member, I made my hotel reservations way back in July and was told that they would require a deposit of (in my case _) $178.00. A conflict has come up and I will not be able to attend the GN this time, so I went ahead and cancelled my hotel reservation so it would free up the room for another member. When I saw that no credit for the deposit had been issued to my card, I contacted the Hotel. I have been told by the hotel that when the CLC made their agreement with the hotel they agreed that all deposits would be non refundable. That sucks. Where in the information regarding the GN is the Non refundable deposit mentioned? I cancelled the reservation 5 months before the event. Maybe next time you might have the courtesy to tell the members exactly what arrangements you have made with the hotel so they will know BEFORE  they make their reservations. I am sure that I am not the only one that will have something come up and need to cancel. Be advised.

I reserved a room at the Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro in June and cancelled it in September. The deposit I paid was the same amount that you mentioned. However, they refunded me that amount.

The initial reservation stated that I had until 4/19/25 to cancel or lose the deposit.

Is it a lost cause?  or can you get your room back and then transfer it to another member that wants to go.  Either way bad policy.

Especially that far out.

Leave a review on this one their sites, especially if they have an FB or IG accounts and also take it up with whomever will listen.

Gotta read the fine print guys. It's not the hotels fault, so why bad mouth them on some silly social media account. It is an agreement made between the CLC and the hotels corporate entity. If you want to blame anyone, you have to blame yourself for not reading the contract and/or the CLC for including that clause in their bargaining agreement.

I agree booking a year out for an event such as this isn't easy. No one can predict the future. I, too, wonder if you went back and tried to get the room back, if you may be able auction it off up to the amount of your loss without profitability. You get your deposit back and a late comer will get a room. Everyone is happy.

I'm up every day at 03:30. Working nights for 46 years does weird things to your body.

Greg,

Did you try reaching out to Cynthia Rutledge the CLC Event registrar or Dave Rubin CLC events coordinator to ask the question about the hotel deposit being refundable?

Using my phone, I found the CLC event page and clicked on hotel information for this year's grand national.

I went through the motions as if I was reserving a room and the details indicate one night deposit. It appears if you cancel sooner than 45 days, the deposit is nonrefundable. Obviously, this is longer than 45 days so it seems most likely the deposit should be refundable.

I don't know the details for sure, but it sounds like possibly the hotel could be in error not refunding your deposit. You can either stay here and gripe or contact one of the persons named above to try and resolve the issue. I know what I would do.
Enjoy life - it has an expiration date.
