When I get the straps figured out, this is how the other end attaches.

I have the impression the hooks are inserted the wrong way. They should be nearer from the tank.

Mine is 61. I know those bolt hooks were used to 64. Not sure if used earlier.

I believe the fuel lines and tank were installed to the body before the body was installed to the frame. That is important for fitting the vent tube. I finally realized what the bent tab welded to the body above the rear end was for. Holding back the vent tube.

The 61.  After I get the original straps powder coated I will try to jack the car up higher for better pictures. I am getting to fat to easily maneuver under there.

I was thinking the same thing. Every tank I've ever removed that had J-hooks had the hook opening toward the rear of the car

I just placed them there to show they do not attach to the frame. After I get the original straps restored we will see how they fall. But look at the flange on the tank. If I flip the hook to the other side it would be near a 40 degree angle. But it might be different with the other straps.

I hate to say it, but you surely did.   Look for the holes hanging down from the trunk floor, directly above the back of the tank.

Those straps should be like the pictures in my car, flat up against the bottom of the tank, and tight.   I cannot get better pictures of my car for you, as the car is now in Western Australia.
