My brother is restoring a 64 Sedan DeVille with leather option.  He intends to put new carpets in. No problem ,lots of choices . The bottoms of the door carpets are faded bad.  Replacing them is more work than wanted. What works best to recolor this carpet?

SEM Interior Dyes. Mask off the panels or disassemble them and shoot the color with an HPLV or if you have lots of time, a high volume air brush. I did the entire interior of my '59 SDV using SEM Dyes and they never faded, discolored or wore off in the 7 years of ownership afterward.

I also refreshed the carpeting of a Firethorn Eldorado. It came out beautifully.

SEM paints, interior, automotive exterior, plastic trim (especially) are great. A little more expensive than most, but worth the extra cost

SEM paint and dye products are the best. I used them exclusively on my Cadillac.

Meanwhile, I've used Detail King liquid carpet dye on all my vehicles that have required it. They make a spray dye too but I like the liquid method. I prefer to take the carpet out, power wash them down to get rid of all the dirt and debris in them and then apply the dye once they're dry. I have had no issues and have been using their product for about 10 years now I believe.         To each their own.

Has anyone tried hair dye? It comes in all kinds of colors. My niece has green /purple  hair. It is water proof. And doesn't just coat the hair. Will it work the same on carpet? I used a spray on my 56 limo, but was never happy. It looked artificial.
I think it would work, but Bill just laughed.

You would still need to spray it or air brush it on to get a consistent layer on the material. But a cool idea! Cheap too.
