I took on the project of rebuilding a carb for a fellow Cadillac enthusiast. This is a 2697S AFB with 3 step metering
rods. The originals are Carter part # 16-31 (.072-.066-.046)
they are badly worn and the mileage is suffering.
My parts book shows 3 other alternate metering rods for this
 carb  : 16-58 (.071-.062-.040)
         16-59 (.071-.062-.040)
         16-73 (.o69-.063-.043)
I am aware that carter used 3 step metering rods in later AVS carbs but these are longer and require raised vacuum piston
covers to allow for more rod travel.
I would like to find a pair of correct rods to bring this carb
exactly back to original

Doug, try the carburetorshop on the web.
Good Luck, Jim

Doug,

The web site is: thecarburetorshop.com

Generally the primary jets wear not the metering rods. I would pull the jets and make sure they are not out of round.

Either way Jon at the Carburetor Shop can provide the parts you need.
