I at first thought someone punched in $45,000.00 and
 got too many "Os"
The shieks must be bidding against each other

A beauty of a Cadillac but, FOUR MILLION ! This cant be right. It looks like some people got into a bidding war, looking at the bids. I hope the seller is not counting his money just yet. I would be real nervous. This will make all you guys happy who own 62 Eldorados.

 Maybe crooked auction .

Anyone else notice you cant "Watch It Now" on this auction? Never seen that before. Something going on here?

If that is a genuine bid, the buyer, or underbidder, can make me an offer on my 1959 Biarritz, factory Persian Sand (matching top and interior, factory buckets, all factory options, still with factory Warranty Book, and complete history and all previous owners documented (first owner a purple-heart recipient & Las Vegas Casino owner). This car is the only known survivor on the planet with all the most desirable factory options on the most iconic American car and year model of all. Not that I have ever entertained selling her, but at that price?????

Great looking car, but why did you block the coping of the pictures.  I wanted to use it for my wallpaper.

*There is a simple way of copying your pictures.

Paul Zanetti

Hi John,

Sorry about that, but its for copyright reasons. The photo images do not belong to me, and are on my website conditional to prevention of unathourised reproduction. I have sent you a photo of the car by email for your wallpaper (not to be reproduced elsewhere please), or I breach my copyright agreement.

Regards from Australia.

Whats to stop someone from highlighting the photos...clicking Ctrl_C then Ctrl_V in any other document?

Vic Mailey

Breaching copyright is not about being clever, its about being honest. Depends on your personal integrity, I guess. Whats to stop someone from breaking a glass window and stealing a display TV?

Thank you father for your inspirational thoughts.

Im not taking the pictures nor suggesting anyone else take them by being clever....just pointing out that he said he has the pictures on his website conditional to prevention of unauthorized reproduction and reproduction is not being prevented.

Vic

Glad to help keep you on the straight and narrow path, my son.

Not gonna touch that one. Wouldnt be prudent.

I understand the whole copyright concept, and I am more or less in favor of copyrights.  I can see why some people wouldnt want their creativity used by others for profit.  Myself, I just wanted to use one of the pictures for my "wallpaper".  I change my wallpaper often, and once I go on the new one, the old one is deleted. Actually I didnt use the 59 as my wallpaper.  I just wanted to let people know that just because they put a "block" on reproducing the picture, that it still can be reproduced, even by a PC-illiterate guy like me.  People that put pictures and info on the internet, should realize that they are leaving themselves open to all forms of "Invasion of privacy".  People should never put anything on the internet, that they wouldnt want the world to know or use.

Paul Zanetti

Gee whiz!

I only added an explanation for John Flemming, who asked why I put a block on the pictures. I explained it was a condition of use by the magazine UNIQUE CARS and the photographer (understandable, as the images are their livelihood). As rightful owners of the images, I agreed to their request to give them credit and to place a copyright protection.

Now, if someone want to get around the block and breach the copyright laws, that is their own call. Ive not breached my agreement. Vic Mailey makes a good point. The laws only apply to honest people. The crooks ignore the laws. He makes the point that because you place a sheet of glass on a TV shopfront display, it will not prevent a crook from breaking the glass and taking what he wants.  Although, John responded sarcastically at this analogy, I think its an apt comparison. Hope you enjoyed the image I sent you, John, and thanks for the email correspondence. Paul (Down Under).

Thats Fleming with one "m", thank you.

[ The laws only apply to honest people. The crooks ignore the laws.]

In the words of my all time hero, Richard Milhouse Nixon "I am not a crook"

[He makes the point that because you place a sheet of glass on a TV shopfront display, it will not prevent a crook from breaking the glass and taking what he wants.]

Actually sheets of glass are used to show ones merchandise.  If a store keeper wanted real security, he would put up steel roll down gates.

[Although, John responded sarcastically at this analogy, I think its an apt comparison.]

Thank you for the compliment, "sarcasm" is my middle name, its what I do best.

[Hope you enjoyed the image I sent you, John, and thanks for the email correspondence. Paul (Down Under).]

Yes I did, and I have it in reserve for future use.  For the record, I didnt infringe upon anyones copyright. I didnt copy the pictures you blocked. As the unofficial self annointed guardian of privacy on the Internet, it was my purpose to bring out that if even some tries to block something on the Internet, it still can be copied. I had this sort of thing happen before, awhile back, when it was noted that some of us prefer to not use our full name, because of of privacy issues.  Its kinda of ironic that you have some concerns about "copyrights", but saw fit to unmask me and expose me to the entire board.

Huh????

My head is starting to hurt!

Thats okay Paul.

If you were a Tasmanian, then it wouldnt hurt so moch as you could then share the hurt with the other one.

Hi,
I often wonder about auctions with "private bidders"
This means no one looking at the auction can see the bidding history so the seller could raise the
bidding on their own with a couple user names, or buddys who are willing to raise it.
Ive seen this with other items on Ebay that on the average sell 1/4 of the price a seller using Private bidding in his auction.
Its so obvious what they are doing I dont see why they bother.
I thought Ebay was better a couple years ago, it seemed more honest
and the auctions were transparent none of the secret privacy stuff.

This comment may sound a little trite but, for me, it has been a major discovery and breakthrough.

Im probably the least "geeky" of all you computer experts out there.  I discovered accidentally that if I click on one of those "locked" eBay images, theres a little box of icons at top left; the first one looks like a miniature 3.5" diskette. When I click on that icon, I can "save" the image on my hard drive and change then file name as I see fit.

I dont usually breach a persons "copyright" ...except to make what the legal guys call "fair use" of coyrighted material, to illustrate a point.  In this case, I used a cropped version of ONE out of about 50 of those Eldo images, in the "Photos" scetion of the Cadillac Database (1962), to illustrate what a nicely restored 1962 Cadillac Eldorado might look like.

Now, Im prepared to REMOVE that image, should the owner complain that his "copyright" has been breached.

And then one more tiny light would go out in the vastness of cyberspace...

If it were MY car, Id by PROUD to have it shown here and there!
