General Discussion / ownership medallions
Last post by Phil J - Today at 05:57:10 PM
I just bought a bunch of these at a estate sale--I have not seen them before--I assume the roman numerals coincide with number of Cadillac's owned?  Please educate me--also have one with no roman numeral

Hallo my '67 Sedan DeVille HT, bought recently, has an harsh gear change specially from 1st to 2nd in the left "Drive" position, if I move to the right "Drive" selection then gearchanges are smoother. Gearbox oil and filter has been changed recently by the previous owner, and the car has a low mileage. There might be an additive or something else to try before thinking about an eventual transmission overhaul?
Kindest regards from Italy.

No roof rails, but I have what I believe are at least one pair of "stone guards". They are the side moulding pieces with the pointy teeth sticking out, right? Can dig them out if you still need them. Not sure if the mounting hardware will still be there though. Clay/Lexi

General Discussion / Re: Need a battery charger to ...

The best Battery chargers are the old ones!  I have repaired @ least a dozen for myself and other people and I use a 1956 Marquette Port-O- Fast on wheels that my father purchased new and a 1974 Sun BC 160 when i want to charge a battery fast or for cranking,  other wise i use several 5 amp or 10 amp brick type chargers when i want to charge them slowly or over night. I use a 5 amp Western Auto battery charger to charge my AGM battery's  It works just fine & they are fully charged  never had a problem using it to charge them, frankly I think its BS you need the special charger for AGM if you charge @ a low rate your fine 2-5 amp. I have had newer chargers with there fancy circuit boards and so called smart charging and they don't last more then 3- 4 years, and if the battery's stone dead they wont charge it. At one time I collected 12 different brands of battery  chargers all made in Minn.

Cleaned what I think is the vent, it was on top underneath the place where the brake line mounts and if that is the vent, it was for sure paced full of dirt and stuff. Hopefully it'll fix the pinion seal leak, it really doesn't leak that bad but it'd be a lot of work to replace.

Technical / Authenticity / Re: 365 oil pressure
Last post by Roger Zimmermann - Today at 11:10:45 AM
I'm not sure but it seems that the guy at the Cadillac forum is saying there is no seal between the oil pump strainer and the pump, but here is one: a felt seal. Without it, no oil pressure because the pump cannot suck the oil, but suck air instead.

Quote from: walkerj on Yesterday at 08:45:41 PMThe pressure gauge is in the port where the pressure sender threads in.  The vertical passage is spotless clean. I can see from top to bottom with the boroscope.  I can see all of the passages that branch off of it as well. They are all clear.   The vertical passage doesnt have a drop of oil in it.

@walkerj,

So back to the oil pump and how you have it installed and the setup of your testing.

There is a thing gasket between the oil pump and the rear main, this gasket is required and from memory folks have had issues if the gasket was either not installed or too thick. Again from memory the issue was the oil pump was having issues building pressure (due to clearance and/or air leaking in between).

With your current setup do you have the oil pan in place (just temporary) fill with oil at least 4-5qt so the screen/strainer is fully submerged in oil?

Although you can feel the oil pump building pressure (with the drill or by hand) it may be picking air somehow not allowing pressure to build to pump the oil upwards. ???

Just a couple of thoughts..! Good luck

Yah, they need a little tickle of power to know it's connected to a battery.
It's so smart, it's dumb.
