General Discussion / Re: 1970 Deville Camber adjust...

Just remember, making any adjustment to that eccentric also changes the caster. Best to find an alignment shop in the area that has knowledge of these cars.

General Discussion / 1970 Deville Camber adjustment
Last post by colorado4x4 - Yesterday at 10:53:07 PM
My 1970 Deville is showing signs of wearing the inside side of the tire on the passenger side of the car only. Which I understand is negative camber.

Which way do I need to turn the camber eccentric to give it more positive camber.....counterclockwise or clockwise? and how much of a turn should it be.....1/8 of turn, 1/4 turn or some other measurement?

FSM says + 3/8 degree to  - 3/8 degrees adjustment max either way....what does that compute to in terms of turning the eccentric ???

The FSM says the "final position of the joint stud should be in the rear portion of the camber eccentric in order to keep steering arm angle correct"  Does that mean that the side of the eccentric in which the stud hole is closest to the edge should be towards the rear of the car?

Want To Buy - Parts / Re: 1955 Cadillac Continental ...
Last post by Lexi - Yesterday at 02:55:33 PM
Warren is correct. 1957 would be the only year for such, at least in the '50s as sanctioned by Cadillac. I think they called it the Auxilliary Wheel Carrier, or something similar. There were after market kits available, many of which were featured in the vintage Whitney Catalogs.

I myself am looking for a '56 after market kit.

Should I see any '57's I shall advise. You could always connect with Continental Enterprises in Canada. They could supply you with a generic kit and you would get all the parts you need. Finding complete vintage kits are very hit and miss. One missing part, which is common, can run a huge chunk of time and burn a hole in your wallet. Best to stick with a sure thing unless you have deep pockets and preferably metal working and machine shop skills. Clay/Lexi

If the Celestiq's launch is anything the Lyriq's, then it will be a disaster.

Technical / Authenticity / 1970s1978 Deville Illuminated Entry...
Last post by joecaristo - Yesterday at 11:08:56 AM
I was wondering if anyone ever added Illuminated entry to their car. I have a 1978 parts car and took the wiring and relay out and put it in my 1978 Deville I'm working on. It was pretty straight forward, Wiring from the relay goes to the door handles, ground, fuse box and left side junction box. It worked great for a month. Now just the passenger side works. I changed the relay, changed the driver side door actuator and installed new wiring to the drivers side and got the same results. Passenger side only works. I hooked up just the drivers side and it worked without the passenger side connected. The other strange thing is when I connect the battery the relay clicks and turns on the interior lights. I don't think that should happen. Am I missing something? The shop manual was no help. If anyone has tried this with success what do you think is wrong? Thanks.

Cadillac discouraged the use of continental kits at this time. The memo I have ,may be from 1954.  A complete turn-a-round came in 1957,when they offered a factory supplied one. It was a one year offering.

The after market kits, one Cadillac claim was they made the cars sag in the rear. Be sure to get a complete kit from the same company.

Want To Buy - Parts / Choke and Cigar lighter
Last post by 35523 - June 26, 2025, 08:32:27 PM
Wondering if anyone has a choke and cigar light they would be willing to part with for my '39 60S. The previous owner replaced them at some point over the years.

I don't want to end up writing a dissertation about this, but I was on the car when it started off the CT6 (Omega) platform.  Lots of twists and turns.  Meet up w/me at GN during the Brougham bar session and ask questions and I can provide what I remember and how the thought process happens, at least at the worker bee level.

I am a Manufacturing Engineer for GM and was on Omega for its life in US.  Today I'm in advanced vehicle development, but I am cleared for approach to land and be free of employment.
