Folks, when I joined in January of 1964, the S/S arrived folded once, was stamped by hand, and Ma Bell was swamped in long distance calls that evening from members trying to be "first" for that part they'd been looking for. I remember one Sunday afternoon, I was on the phone, and finally hung up. Gay asked me, "Who were you talking to for so long?" I replied, "A guy in California." She put her hands on her hips and said, "Who do you know in California? We've never even BEEN there!"

(My selling parts I found "junking," helped keep two growing kids in shoes. Once I found a NOS 1941 60S stone guard. I listed it as "Best offer." One young lady on the phone, tearfully offered $75 for it, as she admitted they couldn't really afford it that month. This was BLS. (Before Lynn Steele.) I finally traded it for a pair of NOS 1941 Series 61/63/67 stone guards for my Limo.)

We can be proud of what Tim and Jeff do for us each month. I think we've had five or six Editors. And me. I gave Agnes Uhlir a break and did the Nov/Dec 1967 issue of simply pictures from the early ones to 1942. That one time was enough for me, and I didn't even have to do the ads.

To have this job staring you in the face each and every month take guts and dedication. If you've got a good story about your car, a vacation you took in your older Cadillac or LaSalle, write it up, take some pictures, and send it to Jeff. He'll make it look like you're in the running for a Pulitzer.

If we're expanding some, we'll need some more stuff to fill the pages. So think about how you fixed something, or show off your Pride & Joy. And I guess I won't have to snarl and yell after all.

Thanks, guys. You do a great job for us.

Thank you, Barry, for your kind words. I have had deadlines every day or every month since I started my newspaper career at the now-defunct Rocky Mountain News in 1981. But it was my choice to embrace deadlines during my career in daily newspapers and monthly magazines. Now, I'm learning more about e-mail blasts and that has a monthly deadline as well.

Well that's good to hear so many members are receiving their March issues.

We just received February recently and now that it is April, hoping March is in my PO Box soon.

I think the first time I joined the CLC was in 1971, I don't know if there is any record, anyway the Self Starter came folded and stapled in black and white except for the cover that was always a different colored paper . I remember one article about a guy towing home a mid thirties Cadillac he had purchased using a 1954 Eldorado as a tow car and at age 17 being more interested in the 1954.
Age 70, Living in Gods waiting room ( Florida ) Owned over 40 Old Cadillac's from 1955's to 1990 Brougham's. Currently own a 1968 Cadillac DeVille Convertible and a 1992 Cadillac 5.7 Brougham.

Our post office was again closed during normal posted business hours yesterday. :(

There was only one piece of junk mail last time I visited there but this time our medium size PO Box was mostly full including our March Self Starter and Journey with Olds. :)
