I am looking for a good used Carter AFB carburetor for my 1958 Cadillac.  My own carb seems to have some tragic internal flaw that we cannot repair, so I'd like to find a good replacement.  Please email me if you can help!  Thanks,  Rex  #18304

Hi, Otto,

I actually got my kit from the Daytona people--very nice.  To my knowledge they did not have an entire carb for sale.  Thanks for the help!

Rex,
"Tragic internal flaws" is usually a euphemism for "I broke it when I was fooling with it".  If this is not the case, there is probably nothing one of the good carburetor specialists listed in Forrests list can't repair.

What is the problem with your carb? If the body is cracked or something, used ones appear pretty regularly on ebay.

Hi, Guys,

I am sure I did not break the carburetor.  My mechanic, who has been rebuilding these for longer than I've been alive, and myself did the rebuild with a standard kit from Daytona.  In short, there is something wrong with the low-speed idle circuit causing the car to flood out after several accelerations, despite the fact that it will run at still idle indefinitely.  We checked and re-checked all the standard problems--needle/seat, floats, metering rods, lack of vacuum, too much fuel pressure, etc. etc.  We finally concluded that someone along the way has installed some incorrect part we can't detect or there is a pin hole in the casting or we're just stumped. etc.  I have no doubt this could be repaired by someone who re-manufactures carburetors.  I already have someone to send it to, but I'd like to get the car running in the weeks the other carb is gone.  That's why I was hoping to find a good used Carter.

I do appreciate everyone's help.

A very nice one just sold on eBay for $123.50.  Keep a watch out for another one to show up.
