I have decoded by body tag successfully...... I think.  My question revolves around the interior body trim color (dash, doors)on my 54 cdv series 62.  Is or was there any rhyme or reason as to the colors used for the painted interior body trim parts?  My exterior is the Black-U /Apollo Gold-L with the Lt Tan V & Crest Cloth & Dk Brown  Leather, but the other interior painted trim colors is red and white.  I believe that this is original to the car.  Am I missing something on the tag or was it an option not listed?  What would be the standard color combo instead of the red/white?  I am not too partial to this color scheme and would like one that is true to the year and easier on the eyes.  Thanks.

From the data plate it looks as though the interior trim code on your car is "Y".  Do a search here on the topic "Trim Code" and you should find an answer, as we beat this subject to death more than a few months ago, trying to figure out what those mystery letters represented.

TRhe "Y" is for the power seats.  I did a search on "trim codes" and I do not find any one referencing the painted interior colors.  The decoder excel file doesn't show or talk about interior "painted" colors.  Who chose the interior painted colors and how is it suppose to be documented?

Gentlemen,

I compiled the Excel spreadsheet database of paint, trim codes and accessories that's posted here. The exterior paint sheets sometimes have interior paint colors. However, they are names- "Bobaloo Beige"- with old lacquer paint codes. For that reason, I did not include them...........If we have another winter like last year I probably will have time to add them for reference.

The CDV in question has tan interior which means the painted surfaces would be Segovia Brown (dark) DuPont No.1895-H, and Canyon Beige (light) No. 1290.

As Ralph stated, this info is available from the Master Parts Book which gives
interior color combinations to go with the exterior colors.  Usually they were two
tone (light and dark) and on the Eldorados sometimes three tone.

Having said that, the problem is the those old names and color numbers are
really tough to cross reference to a modern formula since those lacquer formulations are obsolete.

I went nearly crazy trying to research the interior colors on my '55 Eldo
but finally was able to find a cross match to other GM exterior colors that
matched -- those in most cases have modern formulations.

Thanks.  That is what I needed.  The slut red in there now is an aweful contrast to the brown and biege seats/floors/steering wheel.  You are too kind.  The 1st owner must have been color blind to live with it.

Wouldn't this data be in an Authenticity Manual?

Chris:

In a word -- no.  The Authenticity Manual for Class 15 ('54, '55, '56) covers the
interior UPHOLSTERY colors but not the interior TRIM colors.  By trim colors
I mean the colors on the dash (eye level and the under side, steering column,
cowl vents, etc.  These are tough to sort out and even tougher to match as
I previously stated.

I was one of the authors of that book.
