Can anyone help me find this part for a 39 Lasalle?  It is the sleeve that the throwout bearing slides on.  picture is attached.

Dennis,
This isn't the reply you are looking for, but maybe it will keep the topic alive.  The sleeve in the photo looks the same as the sleeve from my 37 LaSalle.  Perhaps someone w/ a Master Parts Book can see what years use the same piece as your 39.  My 37 is about 3-13/16 long, 3-1/8" diameter at the transmission end and 1-9/16" diameter (OD) where the TO bearing slides.

I'm wondering if the one in the photo is actually in your possession and merely somehow damaged.  It appears that it has a deep gouge at the business end.  If that is the case, perhaps any worn areas could be built up at a crankshaft shop (submerged arc welding) and then ground down to the appropriate diameter or simply turned on a lath.  I notice that on mine, the areas that are not worn still show the machine tool marks (grooves) from the original production.  So the requirements as far as finish are probably something that any machinist can attain.

Thanks Mark,

The one I have is cracked and probably could be repaired unless I can find a better one.
I'm thinking someone has one on a back shelf somewhere.

According to my 1935-55 Cadillac Master Parts List this part is called the "Retainer For Bearing", meaning the throwout bearing.  It is the same from 1938 to 1953 and is part number 142 5364.

Email Tom here. I know he makes reproduction 37 retainers out of SS but he also deals in all parts for vintage cad
lasalle top/side transmissions.

I just sent him the link here.

The 37 version is a tad narrower than the later ones and sometimes won't fit over the later splines at all.
