any you guys know the best place to shop for new or used (good ones )1960 eldorado seville coupe  inside door panels has the carpet on the bottom  thanx ?

Hello,

The best I can recomend is checking with a reputable uphosltery shop or "Hemmings" under "services."  Also check here (CLC forum) under the buy & sell section.

Personally, I doubt you will find new ones, but they may be out there some where.  BUT will they match your color?

Myself, I would take it to a good local upholtery shop, so I could see what material they planed on using, and also to check on progress as it goes along.

Wish I could be more helpfull.

Best of luck, Richard

I guess it all depends on how much time & money you want to put into this project.  There is no doubt in my mind, whatsoever, that either SMS Fabrics or Jenkins Interior can/will do a "bang up" job for you.

I believe there are three options, as follows:

1.  Send the panels to Jenkins or SMS to be redone.  Expect to wait and pay big.  Quality should be excellent.  I have ordered materials from SMS (never door panel work) and have been more than satisfied.  But I have heard of one or two customers who were dissatisfied for some reason, so if you are concerned about this, pay by credit card.

2.  Have a local upholstery shop redo them without micromanaging the work, using fabric from SMS or elsewhere.  Price will be reasonable, but most upholsterers will want to put the thing back together in a more or less standard technique, using generic materials and fasteners.  The product will look very good generally, but not quite 100% original in all respects (especially in how it attaches to the door).  The price will be reasonable.

3.  Have the local guy do the job, but get involved in the process and insist that he replicate all aspects of the door panels, including the stuff you can't see from the outside.  This will cost a lot more money than option 2 and some shops will decline to do the work at all to keep you out of their hair.  Price will be between options 1 and 2.

My guess is the seat switch.  Does your car have bucket seats?  If so, it's a single switch with a round knob like the center switch on a 6-way seat.  Only thing it can be.

has bench seat with six way power seat on the bottom of the seat, no power locks it works on vacuum. got to be something else

Walter Youshock

The seat switch was moved to the armrest starting in '58 on all but the series 62 where it was still on the side of the seat.

Attached is a photo of a '60 Sixty Special with the 6-way adjuster on the armrest in the same location as that hole.

'59 fleetwood sixty specials have the power seat switch on the side of the seat as well. Not on the door.

GEEZ!  Now I'm confused.  I'll have to check the books later.  Too many details to remember and I can't locate a good shot of a '60 Eldo armrest.

Did a bucket seat car have the control on the armrests and a 6-way bench on the seat valance?  I need to find out!

all I know is I still got this open space with a pigtail hanging out. the power vents are on the armrest with two switches, the vacuum door lock is there, thats it. come on you guys wake up I just got my repair manual today so im going to do some looking. help me out you guys this is making me crazy. thanx

Walter Youshock

Making me crazy, too.  I looked through both of Schneider's books on '50's through 60's Cadillacs last night.  It looks lhe seat switch was moved back to the seat in '59 on every series but every data book reproduction in the "Cadillacs of the Sixties" book looked like it was back on the armrest in '60, except for the series 62 and 75.

I still think that's where the seat switch should be.  Hopefully someone with a '60 Eldo will chime in or an expert like Yann who had a few...

In the past few years I have bought and sold two 60 Eldorado Biarritz's.  One with buckets and one with bench.

What does your car have?  I am sure I have some photos of the door panels of each car.

1959 cadillacs with buckets and bench seats had the controls on the side of the seat. 1960 cadillacs with bench and bucket seats had the control in the armrest. Looks like someone installed a 59 seat frame in your car.  Not only is your seat wrong but the armrest control panel you have is for a bucket seat car, the one for a bench seat 1960 has a much larger opening for the 6 way seat switch. If you need the correct armrest panel for your car I have a flawless rechromed one.

Linchero,
Could you post a picture of your cars data plate? That might clear up some questions.

first of all its a bench seat and I will post the data plate ,This guy named frank emailed me and thinks that space was for the window lock out switch. what say you guys.???

rwchatham CLC 21892

It is not a lock out switch.  It is the space for the power seat switch. All 1960  cadillacs had the power seat switch in the armrest. If your power seat switch is on the side of the seat then at sometime during the life of your car  someone has installed a 1959 seat frame mechanism in the car somewhere down the road.
