Appears to be exceptional with rare & ultra desirable color.

A shame the air has been converted to R134a and the small corner pieces were not reinstalled when the fillers were replaced.   :(

Just spectacular. Exactly what I'm looking for in a replacement for the 70.

Guys,

I believe the seller is a local dealer who usually has really, really nice cars.

Looks good to me. Just slight cracks on the steering wheel wood grain. Just keep your hands off it and it should last for a while. I have been doing that dance.

But overall looks good. The pictures are a bit poor. I would still like to see it in person. But 12K is all the money in my opinion and warrants that only if the paint is as good as it seems in these pictures.

The other issue I had was the ignition cylinder was locking up and the headliner and sun visors. Ask for a report on the condition of those. I had to fix those items. Also the filler between the rear license plate and the bumper. Those shots are not clear and I wonder why?

The other weak point may be the wiper motor and the windshield washer (as on all cars this old) but I have been told they were often bad when newer.

New muffler sounds great but did they keep the resonator on it too? Often they will leave it out to save a few bucks. My car had a newer muffler when I got it but he did he not replace the resonator so I got a new tail pipe and resonator for mine.

I've got another call lined up with the seller tonight and someone who knows these cars and my expectations that would put a set of eyes on it.

So here's where we're at . . . the seller made a proposal where he buys my 70 and I buy his 78.  A slight bit less than I want for the 70 and an OK price on the 78.  I've been trying to connect with him for two days now to say, yeah, I'll do the deal subject to someone looking at it for me.  Now he's coming up with excuses not to talk to me.

If someone else is interested, good luck.  I'm just about to say forget it.

That said, my 70 is still on the market.  If anyone here is interested, PM me here for my number and we can talk.

There are plenty more where that came from in comparable condition for a lot less money if you're not too particular about colors while giving more time to get maximum return from the '70.

Well, I'm done chasing him.  If anyone else wants to reach out to him and see if he answers your phone call, I'd be interested to hear what sort of discussions ensue and which direction they take.

Dan I got my car for $8900.

Eric has seen it and it won a Senior Crown. In my opinion you should be able to get a nice one for less than this car.

Almost an certainty that that car will need something and your car is all sorted out. So not sure that deal would be the best you could do as long as you are patient. I would think your 1970 is worth more than any normal 1978 unless it was the perfect color and new in the wrapper.

Dan,
Isn't there anyone near him that can inspect the car?? Maybe he decided he doesn't  want your 70 after all. Approach him on the car outright & see what he says.

No worries George, for him to get my 70 cash comes my way.  We already have established that figure.

At the price in mind, it has to be in the condition of yours or Eric's.

Bob - I have a fellow CLC member 20 minutes away who is like an encyclopedia on these 77-79 cars ready to inspect his car for me.  I don't think it's an unreasonable request for me to make to have it looked at.  He said he knows the previous owner of my car and my car itself and stated that in his proposal.  He knows he's getting something improved over the last time he saw the car.

I know what will go down - I'll get a call on Monday when the car fails to meet reserve on eBay Sunday night when the auction ends asking if I still want to go through with it.  At that point, the market will have spoken as to what the value is on his 78 and if it's below what he quoted, I'll want it at that price AND sell my car at the price I already quoted + a 10% idiot tax.

Good man Dan, he needs to throw some cash in too. I just wonder if the bidding is real.

Are you sure there is a reserve, unless I am getting old I do not see it?

Well I'll be damned. There was a reserve up until a few hours ago. I'll bet he lifted it to try and encourage more bids. Money says the listing will disappear just before the auction ends and car will be marked as no longer available.

I agree.

Eric knows more than me about these cars than me, but they are not bringing top dollar now. It has been like this for a few years. So I think you are right. It disappears just before the end.

Let's see if we are right.

Guys...just so you know, eBay system will not allow the change from "reserve not met" to "reserve met" on a current standing bid. Reserve can only be knocked off with a subsequent bid regardless of how much it was lowered or even if removed altogether.

In any case, I think reserve was off since this morning.

Dan & others,
I love the color & the beautiful leather. I'd pay more than for a ho-hum color. If you REALLY  want it, bid as high as it takes now that it's no reserve. Sell your 70 to someone else.
