Greeting,

This is my first post to the forum. I recently picked up a 1941 series 63 and am making my first attempt at a restore. I plan to make it a driver and add AC and a few other power options as time and money permit. I tried posting a couple of times before with a picture attached and it would error out on me so I'll post without a pic this time and see if I can get it to work.

I'm going to need to rewire, are there recommendations or cautions about any of the companies that sell the wire looms? There seems to be a bit of difference in their pricing.

Any tips to avoid pitfall would be welcomes and well and money pits to avoid.

I look forward to learning and hopefully sharing as time goes on.

Thanks,

Welcome to the forum. Your car looks like a 62 Series to me. Can you post a picture of your data plate? It should be on the drivers side where the hood hinge attaches to the cowl. In any event it looks like a nice solid car.    Harry

Thanks I'll get a shot of that tonight and post.

If I'm reading it correctly it is a series 62 but what does the "19D" mean?

If you are planning on adding air conditioning and other power options, I suggest you convert it to 12 volt negative ground.  Don't think anyone makes aftermarket A/C components that operate on 6V.

19 is the body style, (4 door sedan)
'D' is delux model (had a few nice extra internal trim bits.)

Jagbuxx and Steve

Thank you for your replies.  If you don't mind me asking what are some of the extras that came with the delux?

As I'm making a plan of attack would you recommend a frame off restore or is that a bit of overkill for building a driver? (like I've said this is my first restore/build)

Thanks

Steve Passmore

Delux is a little fancier on the upholstery plus all the stainless around the bottom of the seats and on the door panels.  Steering wheel is the chrome type, maybe heater and radio.

I was just replying regards "D" features when Steve's post popped up. In addition to what Steve mentions fender skirts or wheel shields were included.
I think you are wise to not go the frame or body off route. That is prohibitively expensive and when finished not practical for everyday of fun use.     Harry

Steve and Harry thank you for the additional information.

Another question, hope you don't get tired of them as I move along with this.  Are there any sources for replacement spare tire well's in the trunk, seems like a common place to rust out.

Thanks

They can usually be fabricated by a good sheet metal man.

Quick update on the project

A few pics of the take down process.

Looks like one of the blowers for the under seat heaters in gone.
Got a few extra thing in the back of one of the seats.
Is this a factory seat color for a delux?
Any suggestions for the rear arm rests?

Working while the weather lets me, hope you all had a great Thanksgiving.

If you must add some power accessories I suggest a power rack and pinion steering gear and a Mexican air conditioner. The Mexican air-conditioner fits in the trunk, is run by a 12 volt 2.75 motor and doesn't infringe upon the originality of the cockpit. You can find the electric motor here.
https://www.hydrogenappliances.com/3hpmotor.html
The owner of the company selling the electric motor says he has sold thousands of them to the Mexicans for a cheap air conditioning unit.

The power rack and pinion will be a simple addition as it is skinny and can mount up near the front cross-member. The air conditioner will take up little space in the trunk and you won't have to worry about bracketry on the engine. You can mount the compressor next to the 12 volt motor easily and the condensor can be located under the gas tank. I'm doing so on my '37 Coupe and other than a small amount of grille work in the back seat you won't be able to tell the car has air.

Carl, I'd be interested to see photos of the a/c setup when you get yours installed and I'll look into the power r and p.

Thanks,

wpbennett

I was looking at some pics of my carb today, it's a Carter with a tag that reads "682S".  In looking at what should be on this car I'm thinking it should be a "506S".  Am I correct and somewhere along the line this got switched?

Any issues I should be aware of with the carb switch?
