Hello All,

I've got a 1968 Cadillac Series 75 Sedan with an internal leak in the master cylinder.  I have been unable to find a rebuilt one or replacement one due to the rarity of this item for 1968.  The outlets are on the right of the unit, toward the engine.  According to the parts book, the master cylinder for the Commercial Chassis was unique to this model and year, and not the same as those used for the deVille's, Fleetwood Sedans, and other cars of that year.

Apart from taking my car out of service for a few weeks while my existing one is rebuilt, does anyone have any sources I might be able to check?

We have checked online, Rock Auto, USA Parts Supply, Fusick, and will continue our search on Monday when things open again.

Thanks for the help!

Maybe I'm missing something but they show in online search?
Check the correct P/N and search/call parts stores.
You can rebuild one, in a short amount of time, if it's in decent shape.   Cylinder hone, rebuild kit, and a few hand tools.

???  Rock Auto has them, but any parts store should have them.  According to Rock Auto's parts listing they are the same as the other Cadillac models, '68 thru '70 except Eldos.

Edit:  Just make sure you get the same brand you now have --- Delco-Moraine or Bendix.  Yours looks a little like the Bendix to me, but can't be sure.
There is a fine line between "Hobby" and "Mental Illness".  Dave Barry.   I walk that line.

What a beautiful sample of a Cadillac you have in your collection!

Dear All,

Thanks for looking at my post, and for your replies.

To be clear, the brake master cylinder for my car is unique to the commercial chassis for 1968, and not shared with the other 1968 models.  The ones for sale online are for the normal de Ville and Fleetwood models, and have outlets pointing to the driver's side fender, not toward the engine, which is correct for my car.

I am leaning toward rebuilding what I have got as I have not found anything to purchase yet.  I generally like to have an extra part on hand of components such as these if I can, but a rebuild of my current unit will solve the issue.

Looking to get her back on the road soon!

Keep everyone informed as to the solution I find.

Thank you!

May I ask what sort of professional car you have? I would have thought it is a Fleetwood 75.

By looking at the 1975 parts book, I see that: 68 Eldo, 75 and CC with disk brakes have the part number 1494859, Bendix.
I see no part number for the same cars with a Delco Moraine brake system, nor for cars having front drum brakes.
As I don't know if you have drums or disks, it's just an information.

Dear Roger,

Thanks for the information.  I found it very helpful and we were able to find a master cylinder in Indiana, USA using your information via my local Cadillac dealer.  We should be back on the road again soon.

Dear 6262,

My car is a Fleetwood Series 75 Sedan.  It is not an ambulance or otherwise, but this group of cars are often referred to as professional cars or commercial cars, hence the subject of my messages.

Regards,

Travis

Travis, I'm glad I could help!
There is a subtle difference between Serie 75 and CC: The Serie 75 was done at Cadillac; CC models had a different frame and were delivered to the coach builders with just the front clip. This is why CC models are so difficult to restore. I suppose know all that already.

Was it a new or rebuilt from IN?
Those pesky P/Ns serve a purpose.
Curious as to the availability of '60s parts.
