Great shot Jon! I once got one very similar. Hope to get the beast out on the road soon! Clay/Lexi

Clay, I noticed two additional gauges in the speedometer face: oil pressure and amps. How did you that?

Roger you have an Eagle eye. Yes there are 2 nonstandard gauges in the dash cluster. They were there when I bought the car. Looks like they used the turn signal ports and enlarged them to their present rectangular shape. Turn signals are now 2 round coloured ports above, near the 20 mph and 110 mph markings. The cuts all look very precise, like a machine made them, but the add on phosphorescent painted names appear hand done. When I had the dash apart a few years ago, I found a tag behind the cluster with replacement part numbers for the 2 gauges. The tag had a vintage Cadillac crest logo on it, leading me to think GM or a dealership made this change at the request of a former owner. Car appears to have had a SO tag on it so perhaps this was one of the changes? Gauges still work. Clay/Lexi

Interesting modification! Only owners from a '56 car can note the changes.

Clay,  those are very cool!! Can you tell what brand the add on gages are? That sure beats putting those aftermarket
gages under the dash.
Would you happen to have any pictures of them from when you had the cluster out and apart?

Remember,  no matter where you go, there you are.

I am not sure Rick, (Cadman-iac). Attached is a shot I took of the reverse side of the tag with the gauge information. Both looked to be credited as AC parts. Other side had pre-printed information regarding the oil bath cleaner, as if from the factory, and then hand written details on the model of car and owner. Also attached is a close up of one of the gauges. Perhaps part of the car's SO package? Think I once tried to look these numbers up but could not find them. Clay/Lexi

Further to my above posts on those odd gauges as seen in the overall dash photo, close up & the yellow tag, as seen above. Has anyone seen a Cadillac tag like that? Any guess as to what year of crest is pictured? Also, I finally got Lexi fired up and took her out for her first 2021 road trip, this past afternoon. Clay/Lexi

Clay--

Now I find out that Lexi is your car's name!!! So, apparently, when we exchange and discuss, you're sharing with these messages with Lexi.. Laurie makes the distinction clear between the Ark and her.... ok, also, having owned 2 '56 sdv, I'm fascinated by that  gauge--- did I understand this was a SO item?  And it reads????  is it an amp meter?  If so, is it intended to provide a plus/minus of 4 amps.  Happy day to you and Lexi , James

Yep! No "cross dresser" here. It was just me and my car all along James! In retrospect glad that I straightened that out! Other people have names for their cars on this site, like the Cadman-iac, who calls his '56 Caddy Norma Jean. Please tell us that you have (or had) a name for your car James? If not, then please join us!

As for those gages I discussed above in this thread, I am not sure what the threshold value is for the amp meter. The other is for oil pressure and I think is calibrated up to 30 psi. Although Lexi's cowl tag lacks the usual "SO" imprint, it has the heavy duty staples at the bottom which may indicate it was a Special Order vehicle. At least that is the opinion of 2 other knowledgeable CLC members. I have also seen at least one other vehicle with those staples that still had the heavy paper/cardboard tag still stapled to the cowl tag, and it did have SO information printed on it. Problem is that after some 60 - 70 years these are mostly now missing. So Lexi may have been a Special Order vehicle. Perhaps that explains the presence of the non-standard gages. Probably not, but maybe. Clay/Lexi

Laurie why did you get off "Scott free", but not me? I too have often talked about Lexi as my car in many of my posts. And we both listen to Heavy Metal music. WTF gives? LOL Clay/Lexasaurus \ww/

Clay I'm a victim as well, I thought "you were Lexi". Wasn't until we became Facebook friends and starting chatting
more I realized you were CLAY, and the CAR was Lexi! \m/
