Listed for 18 weeks at this price (so far) this one may be a decent Allante to look into as some of you like the 1992 engine more than the 1993 1st year Northstars.  A rip in the driver's seat, I am sure the leather is dry and needs a conditioning.  Top looks nice, paint not too bad from the photos, and low miles at 65,000.

Although not correct, the more modern Cadillac wheelset is a nice deviation from the Allante wheels.  Judging from the literature in the trunk, this may have been owned by a Cadillac enthusiast.

I would consider offering them $4,000 take it or leave it and walk away if they balk.  While the car may sell this spring to a convertible buyer, the Allante presents many challenges to ownership and buying at the right price is essential.

The ad says it has the 4.5 engine, shouldn't it be the 4.9?

I do not believe The 4.9 Made it to the Allante

Owned one of these for 12 years... they are really very nice cars, but minor issues can be annoying and frustrating.  Typical issues--- the radio--- 4 separate amplifies that crap out over time... CD player is another challenge... window switches subject to failure.,  Adaptive shock absorbers do fail over time and there are no replacements.  and then there's the ABS brakes.   I'd say if this car is running well and the drives well, and the in dash monitoring system is not alerting you to failures, the price is good; however, if you're looking for a perfect Allante, I suggest spending twice that asking price and by a really low mileage one that's in perfect condition with everything working.  When I was considering another Allante 8 years ago, I found a low mileage XLR... this car is so far superior to the Allante in so many way.   James

Per Wikipedia:

The name Allanté was selected by General Motors from a list of 1,700 computer generated selections.[5] Originally designed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz SL and Jaguar XJS, the Allanté initially featured a slightly modified variant of the 4.1 L V8 used across Cadillac's model line. This was expanded to 4.5 L in 1989, and upgraded to the 4.6 L L37 Northstar in its final year, 1993.

Me - I don't know enough about this era of Cadillac engines to remember or know if the 4.5L version is a decent motor or not.  Having owned a 1993, I thought the Northstar had good power but frankly I was scared to put my foot into it, so to speak.

The bottom line for me for Cadillac is that I am not looking for neck snapping performance, just competent acceleration.  I had a 1995 Mercedes SL500 and that had good power, I guess, but again I did not head to the freeways on ramps so I could "punch it".

I would think the 4.5 L V8 would be fine for this car, along with a 4 speed overdrive, you would likely get 26 mpg highway, a consideration in this gas inflation time.

The Allante' engines 4100 of 87-88 and 4.5 of 89-92 were specially tuned versions of the engines in regular Cadillac models. The 4.9 was never used in the Allante'. The final year 1993 had the Northstar with slightly higher HP shared with the ETC and STS that year.
