Hello all,
Is the capacitors for the noise suppression for the generator and the regulator supposed to be the same value at .5mf. One vendor lists the generator at .3mf and the regulator at .5mf. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Bob,

The generator has 0.3mf and the VR has the 0.5mf.  ;)

Hope this helps..!

Perfect. Thank you Jose. Lectric limited was the vendor I was referring to seems like a good company a little pricey at $20.00 each.

Bob,

I had to original Delco ones with the part stencil and was able to get them recap, all three were bad after testing them.

Is a bit tricky to get the rolled bead open and to close it back but I got them all in. The only issue is with the new capacitor they are close to the original values, so for the .3mf I used .33mf and for the .5mf I used a .47mf both at 600V rating.

Here is a quick reference (still in draft mode after a few years  :( ) of the process sorry is not yet complete as I still have a few more pictures and notes to add.

Good luck.

Cool I think I'll take my one with the broken lead apart. Is it ok to drive the car without the one on the regulator?

Thanks,
Bon

A radio suppression cap is not critical to operation
of the car, just to receiving anything on the AM
radio.  Those values are not at all critical, I
do not believe it would be possible to measure any
noise difference if they were both the same.

A standard radio cap might be way under $20, but
needs to be packaged to withstand car environment,
and ought to be rated at least 300V (600 is standard)
to withstand any transients that might occur.

It should be no problem is just a capacitor to filter any pulsating voltage that maybe present on the main line.

I shopped around and discovered that Lectric Limited prices are better than the name brand stores guess I'm getting old. I ordered them on Friday afternoon and got them Saturday via UPS the next day with no special shipping. They are based out of Illinois and I live in Wisconsin so that might have helped. They have other components for our Cadillacs worth a look. Highly recommend them.

Yes, worth mentioning. On a side note after brake work a few years back I found a good used one of these static collectors (think they are generically called). After test driving I noted a rythmic clicking noise from my wheel. Determined it was the just installed static collector. Other side was fine. I had to remove it as the noise was bothersome and distracting. Just a heads up... just in case...  Clay/Lexi
