My car would have a hard start, and then stall when I put it in drive.  I thought it was a lot of things and replaced the points, and changed the fuel filter.  It turns out the carburetor was clogged with varnish and dirt. We suspect it was from sitting it out most of the summer.  So after a thorough cleaning and clearing o' the jets, we'll put it back on and see how we fair.  I think that it was due time since it had been a good 10 years since we had it out and cleaned.  Thank heavens for Bruce Warren Auto Repair in Norfolk who paid a house call so we didn't have to tow the car in.

Thanks to another house call from Bruce Warren, he supervised me putting in the carburetor and then did his adjustments.  There is a base-idle adjustment screw underneath the carburetor that once adjusted, kept the car running when it came off of high-rev idle.  Unfortunately a tiny, tiny clip dropped down onto the floor and disappeared for the choke rod so he will come back with another one to finish the job.

Lesson here was, bring spare gaskets, screws, and clips. If you don't, have a medium strength magnet! Saved me several times with big hands and tiny screws, washers, and clips....except for the one that disappeared.

So it looks like you also have a "black hole" at your place where things go and are never seen again. Clay/Lexi
