I think there are two radio lights.

One when you turn it on and that's inside the radio so removal would be necessary and the dash with it.

The other light is on the outside of the radio and clips into the top. This comes on when the headlights are on. It appears there is little to no room to remove that.

So again the dash would come off.

Am I correct or is there a way to remove radio without the dash removal? It looks like the dash needs to come off to access the bulb(s).

If so, what a poor design!!!

Only one light that I know of.  Thats the light that comes on when you pull the light switch.

There's also a pilot light in the center of the dial that illuminates whenever the radio is powered up.

No stereo radio in 1960. AM only.

Radio can be removed by tsking out the glove box liner. A little tight. But I have done it several times.

Forgot to mention remove the glove box door also.

How about the speaker? Should that come out first?

No need. Be sure to unplug all wires to the radio.  If your radio is not stock check for the connections. Speaker and antenna and power.

George,

Indeed, there are 2 lights on the radio. one mounted though the top of the radio to illuminate the face of the dial, and the other inside the radio shows as a red dot which is a "Power On" indicator, on the face of the dial.

The radio is held in place behind the dash by, 1 each specialty round "slotted" nuts in back of the knobs on each side of the front of the radio where the shafts comes through the dash.
There is a short 6" diagonal bracket with a bolt at each end mounted to the left bottom side of the radio, and a short straight bracket with a single bolt attached to the front right of the radio.

There are harness connections, for power, antenna, remote foot control (if the car is so equipped), and the front speaker.

I offer some pics, which I hope will be helpful.

Have fun,

Great pictures.  BTW how hard is it to install the radio foot switch?  Just plug and play?  How does it mount to the floor?  I wouldn't mind this option although they're very few AM stations worth listening to.

Great pictures Steve, thanks.

I knew about most of this except the mounting bracket on the right side.

I think I can get this out without removing the dash.
