This jack is supposed to be for the 1957 Eldorado's cast aluminum rear bumpers . Is it missing any part , or does the hook fit directly into the hole in the bottom of the bumper ? It does fit in the hole and seems contoured to the bumper's side surface , but it sits right on the chrome . I can't imagine it being used ( I would never use it ) without damaging the chrome . ....Thanks , Paul Tesone CLC #6876

I seem to remember they had a shape pad where the jack rides against the bumper.

The frame and bumpers of an ancient car might
have developed weak spots you do not know about.
That, besides being entirely too dangerous.  My
advice is leave all bumper jacks in the trunk
for show, and get a frame jack for actual use.
I was able to equip all my cars from 80s at the
yard.  Bruce Roe

Thanks David & Bruce . Bruce - I agree with you , and have no intention of ever using the jack . I'm just looking for an opinion as to the authenticity of the jack for the ELDORADO SERIES , which has rear bumpers different from other series bumpers . My restorer seems to think there is a piece missing from the apparatus that attaches to the bumper . I do not . The hook you see in the photo fits into the hole on the bottom of the bumper and fits the contour on the side of the bumper . It seems like a dumb design that would no doubt damage the chrome if ever used - even in 1957 . Jack will be used for appearance only .
