1952 S62,I put a new sending unit in the gas tank and now the gauge never comes off full? What is the next step for a working gas gauge?

Gauge current goes to the sending unit and its
resistance, then to ground.  Usually an open
circuit anywhere in that path will cause a full
reading.  If grounding the gauge wire reads E,
then look for trouble around the tank.  The
sending unit itself may have a ground wire that
must be attached to the frame, rather than just
grounding the tank.  Bruce Roe
