I have some cracks in a dash that I'm trying to do a small repair on. I'm planning to just plastic weld the spot to stop it's spread if I can. Curious what the material actually is made of?

Show a picture. I believe the top skin is a PVC vac formed compact sheet.

You can buy a vinyl/leather repair kit that works like a flexible filler.

The car is not here, this is a friend's car. I'm afraid it will just continue to crack to pieces like mine has. Good tip on a repair kit! That would be easier than plastic welding, which was my first thought.

David,

Just a thought, try to copy the pattern embossed in the covering on each side of the cracked repair area to hide the patch.
Otherwise, it may look like a smooth section between embossed patterned areas.

Have fun,
