There is a cross pipe fastened to the rear of the upper radiator tank. I have the four nuts removed and applied PB Blaster but can't get it to budge. I am reluctant to pry on it and destroy the tank. See the picture attached. I am open to ideas. Thanks in advance for the replies.

I can't seem to pull up the picture. It sounds like it could be soldered to the tank.  It is most likely the thermostat housing, and there is no reason it should be soldered on.

Hopefully, your town or city will have a radiator shop. You probably need to have it flushed anyway, and they would be more knowledgeable about getting the part removed. (It'd help to try to find the oldest shop in town.)

You might go on line and try finding ways to separate iron from brass as well. Or try a local university. I can't remember taking one off of the only '47 that I had, but I imagine there was a gasket and that might be causing the problem.

Also, give Terrill Machine in Texas a call. They've been in business through at least two generations and might know. Best of luck.
