I am trying to find a 6 volt voltage regulator for my 1941 60 special positive ground car. Anyone know were I can get one?

I'm using an Echlin VR56 from NAPA. It's listed on their website for early 40s Buick and Cadillac Fleetwood 75.

The price has really jumped in a couple years. I paid about $100. Napa now has it listed for $265.

Why don't you try contacting Marty Watkins, who lives in PA and can be found in the Directory. He might be able to help you salvage your original before you shell out the big bucks. At least he might be able to tell you quickly whether or not you need one. Or Jeff Hansen in Delaware. He bought my 41-60S and might have a spare. If nothing else, go through the Directory and start calling owners to see if they have a spare. You never know.... If you do this, check their location in the US and don't call at meal times or bedtimes. (Folks with old cars like that might go to bed earlier.

(When I was President, I got a phone call from Australia one night about 3 AM. My nurse wife who usually got up about five to run before work wasn't amused.)

What you need ,,is the first question to ask.

John says he is happy with an Echlin VR-56. This is the model that fits 46-48 Cadillacs,it is negative ground.
           Cadillac and Delco-Remy use part #1118202( later 1118302)for 40-42 positive ground and 1118242  ( later 1118301)for 46-48 negative ground.

Echlin says VR-56 negative, VR-57 Positive

Standard /Blue Streak says VR-1 40-48 all, some 49 (  I checked almost all regulators they sell are for both positive and negative ground, including this one)
Cadillac Serviceman Dec 1946 from "Polarity Of Electrical Units Affects Use"

The current and voltage regulator is connected internally for negative ground, and changes have been made in the windings. The regular is NOT interchangeable with previous ones, although identical in external appearance. The 1946 regular is identified by the number 242, which is stamped on the exposed side of the mounting flange."

The  difference from + to- is the direction of current flow.Standard must make the windings and points heavy enough for either direction.

There are Standard VR-1 regulators on eBay (about $50) . There is a guy with a 12volt ,VR-1.It must be some other make, don't buy it (12 volt won't work)
