There is a spring loaded button on the bottom of the switch.  Press and hold it in while pulling on the knob and the knob and shaft will come out.

Reverse procedure to install. Sometimes it will slip in, sometimes you have to push the button again.

The shaft already came out but the knob is still attached.  I'm adding a second picture of the reverse side. Still need advice!

Do those two rivets hold the timer in place?

Not sure about my explanation, but I have the impression that the "collar" is just pushed on the rheostat's serrated shaft. The attached drawing is for 1965 models; 1966 must be similar.

Best club in the whole world!  This might help me put this back together!  Still can't get the knob off but today is another day to try!
