Good morning,

I'm getting the  hood side vent covers replated so I will have to paint the emblems. Were they originally a bright white or somewhat off white?

THe ones on mine look like a faded appliance white. The ones in front look like a faded appliance white.

The Authenticity Manual says the "Lasalle" script in the grill is "off white". It says the hood side grills and the center grill should be "white" between the horizontal lines. The LaS on the hood side grills should be "white".

That is all the elaboration there is in the book.

Thanks Tom,

I gave the manual a cursory look but missed it. Thanks for looking it up. "White" it will be.

Did you use pure white or "off white"?    Thanks for showing pictures of your method. I will have to do that to my 1940 Lasalle grill parts in black eventually.

I went with pure white on the emblems, hubcaps and grills. With the color of the car and whitewall tires, I didn't think off-white would look as good. I just bought the narrow masking tape the same width as the grill bars. It was time consuming but came out well. I used this first to help improve adhesion.

Good morning,

THanks for the photos. Spectacular job. Fortunately my hubcaps and the grille emblem have been done.

I do plan on taping the vent ribs. I've got model makers tape for the job.

BTW where did you get the buer cross bar?

Thanks.

Are you referring to the Grill Guard?

According to the VIN lookup, that came with the car as an original accessory. It and the heater defroster were the only two accessories selected.
