New ACC carpet doesnt fit, or am I doing something wrong. I tought these were moulded and fit right in,,, Is it in backwards. I just found the bill and it says 1959-1960 carpet. This carpet is very baggy on the hump like its too big. I know the hump in a 59 is larger, so how could this fit a 60?  HELP PLEASE

Hard to tell exactly which hump is gge problem. Do you mean trans tunnel.

Does the 60 have this extra piece of metal under the carpet that ducts air to the second row like the 61.

You said it in one.   The two cars have different floors.   There should be different carpets for the '59 and '60.

I find it funny that ACC would list the same carpet for both years.

You are not doing it wrong. A post here some years ago about the same issue said that the 60 had a smaller transmission hump than the 59 because the transmission was due to holding less fluid. The pre molded carpets are molded to fit a 59 with the larger hump and will not fit exactly in a 60. You also don't get the leather binding on the hump like the 60 carpets had. Based on that I decided to redye the carpet I had in my 60 CDV. They came out good. One solution I thought of at the time was to get some thick carpet padding and duct tape enough of it to the hump to build it up so the carpet would fit better. It's what I would have tried.

When I got it in I noticed that when I put my hand on top of the hump and pushed down, my hand went down about an inch. This must be for the larger hump in the 59

I put ACC carpets and floor mats in my 57 sedan. I experienced a similar issue as you and all I can surmise is that the carpets were not molded after the original, it is kind of close but I also had problems getting the front to fit. The floor mats are the same thing, I don't know where they got the template from but the front driver mat does not fit at all. I was forced to make this stuff work since I spent at least a decade driving around with no carpet or padding at all!

I also had that issue with a new molded carpet, with an extra large transmission hump that the car didn't have.  I went for years with extra padding under it.  I am finally replacing the carpet for that reason and got a small hump carpet.  (I made sure to stress that point when I bought it).

Hey Mark, was that carpet issue with your '56? Got to order one for mine and was hoping the trany hump would not be an issue. Clay/Lexi

Further to the above, does anyone know whether ACC will sell only a front carpet? Thanks. Clay/Lexi

The original carpet was sewn and not vacuum formed. Even on the trans hump. The issue is finding the correct color carpet as yardage.

I noticed the same issue with my '60, which was recarpeted prior to my acquisition. But I might try some additional padding under there to tighten things up. The other thing I've noticed with '59-'60 carpets is that the originals had a bound slit in the middle of the hump, and none of the replacements I've seen have that feature.

59-in-pieces

David & Jon,

As David showed on his 60, it had stitching.

As for a 59, it too was stitched, but in a couple areas as well as having the sewn binding edges, to better help the car[et to shape to the floor and padding below.

Have fun,
