Hi Jack,

I got a simmilar email purporting to be from ebay saying that if I didnt re-register, then I would lose my account, and have to pay a $350.00 fee to get it back.

I did a "right" mouse click on the message and then went down to "Properties", and scrolled down through the lines and found that it was sent by some snoozer in Hong Kong, so I added the sender to my list of "Blocked Senders", and removed it.

I am sure it is nother scam.

That is BS -Ive got several like that about my Ebay and Paypal accounts. That is refered to as "Phishing". -When you respond to those they can get into your actual acounts-steal possibly. Forward that or other funny emails to: spoof@ebay.com   spoof@paypal.com    -"They want you to"!

Paul Flykt #18899

Definitely forward the spoofs to eBay or Paypal. DO NOT respond, if you do they will know they have a good email address. One day about 2 weeks ago I had 4 separate eBay spoofs from the same sender.

Yes - these are phishing (fake) messages, designed with graphics and links which appear to be genuine, but which, when clicked, take you somewhere completely different.  Everything apepars legit.  Once you try to log into the fake site, they have your account information.  This is not just happening with Ebay but with banks and credit cards as well.  A woman at our office got one from a bank she has an account with, believed it, and 10 minutes later all her checking account contents had been transferred to a bank in Romania.  I never believe an unsolicited email like these.  If you think it might be legitimate, email or call the bank and ask them - but never trust these clickable emailed links.

I got one today congratulating me on gaining "power seller" status. I know my sales havent been high enough to rate that, so it is a "new" ploy.

Thanks for yuor input.I tryied to log into my ebay account. It said that my account is suspended, under section 9.I emailed ebay to find out why and was told that my account was suspended due to an  association with another suspended registration:STOPAPEPT. Nerver herd of this one.I wonder if stopapept stands for something else? Maybe stopatheif or stopatheft,or stoaperpetrator, and this person scamed into my records. Now I am being asked for a copy of my drivers licence or government issued ID and a copy of a recent credit card/bank statment clearly showing  my name and address. Now this request says that it  was sent from ebay customer support.I feel that I should call the directly to be sure that this is so.Jack.

Bruce Reynolds # 18992

Jack,

I would be calling Ebay directly, using a phone number that you know is actually a real one for Ebay, and not one that is supplied by the sender on the email.

Any information that you supply could be used erroneously if it falls into the wrong hands.

These "Scammers" actually make themselves out to be the real thing.

QUOTE "Now I am being asked for a copy of my drivers licence or government issued ID and a copy of a recent credit card/bank statment clearly showing my name and address" END QUOTE.   For them to ask for these specific items of information seems to be to be really dangerous, for you.

Jack,

DON’T SEND OR CONTACT ANYONE VIA THE E-MAILS YOU ARE RECEIVING !!!!!!!
Call ebay directly at their California corporate headquarters. The main number is (877) 329-3229. I’d start with customer service. If you can’t get to someone in authority, tell them you are a victim of identity theft through their system…..That ought to get someone’s attention.

I occaisionally get those types of emails supposidly7 from either from EBay or PayPal. Heres how to handle it:

Steve Preston #16375

1) DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINK IN THE EMAIL.
2) Open the email & in you email software, find and click view,  options, select ALL the email header information listed & copy.
3) Do what you would do in your email software if you were forwarding it to someone. Place the cursor at the top of the text area, above the original text & paste (the info you copied above).
4) Forward the email to: "spoof@ebay.com" or "spoof@paypal.com".

They will email you back whether its legit or not.

If I have time during the day,  I usually reply to one of the 15 or so daily scam e-mails I have with really offensive bogus information.  At least I might annoy the punk that sent that garbage to me.

Bruce Reynolds # 18992

Joe,

By replying to them, you are giving them a valid email address.

What I do is add each one to my "Blocked Sender" lits.

Well, I got my account back. I contacted ebay to find uot if they had sent me the email, and they did.I sent them the minimal info that they wanted and know I am back in bussiness.Howerver they did not tell me how related my good name was to the other fruadulent account.I have since cancelled my credit card and found $135.00 charged to my card. This charge is now under investigation.I am still left wondering how much information this other person has on me!Jack.
