Work on the 75 Eldorado front suspension requires removal of the torsion bar. The manual states that a special tool is needed to get access to the T/B adjuster bolt for this job.( a torsion bar remover and installer) j-22517-01
Has anyone removed the torsion bar on these cars and if so is there a way round the special tool.
Is it possible to get the tool anywhere in the US.

OTC make the tool, part number J225127C. I ahve found a few places that sell it but its expensive, about $200.00. Heres one place where I found it:

Some guys think that it could be hand made but I wouldnt trust a home made one! Guess Im just a chicken.

No I don.t think you are chicken. Its a risky business.
Thanks for the tip, it costs $173 plus shipping. not bad I suppose.

I removed and reinstalled mine with a tool I fabricated using the shop manual as a reference.  I can probably find it if youd like me to.  I am still alive and in one piece!

Lars,

Steve showed me catalogue pictures, looks an improvised 3 inch muffler clamp could be modified into that tool.

He is skeptical.
