Seems to be following the projection that vehicles in the future will be more and more utilitarian, people movers.  The Japanese are designing these things to contract and expand according to function not unlike the tech figures of the last decade.  The days of the auto are looking as we get closer to a personal device...possibly even flying.  Doubtful but possible.

Oh did I mention it was ugly?

The way the roof is sectioned into the doors looks like a lot of rain and snow will come in when your getting in and out in bad weather, also what if you roll over on the roof, be tough getting out.
