Hi All,

A man here in South Australia has contacted me and enquired about the year and value of some Gray and Davis lamps he discovered in a garage some 50 years ago.

The story is that, at the time, he was an apprentice working in a workshop here in Adelaide for a fellow called Jimmy Stump who had a business on King William Road. The owner decided that it was time to do a clean-up and in doing so these G&D Lamps were uncovered and claimed by the apprentice - a man who is now 74 years of age.

The description of the lamps is as follows:

Enscribed with the words Made for Cadillac by Gray & Davis
External diameter approx 7 1/4 inches
Depth approx 5 3/4 inches
Diameter of lens approx 5 1/2 inches
Hinged on the left hand side
Bayonet globe
Hex nut on base
Both lamps appear to have the remains of nickel coating

These lamps have not been restored but have been carefully stored for 50 years. I have a photo but dont know how to forward it with this message. I can email if required.

I have contacted a couple of people here in Oz, one of whom owns a 1912, and it appears the lamps are from 1913. If so, what could be demand/value for these items and what may they be worth in very restorable condition? This is obviously a piece of string question but ballpark estimates is all that is asked for.

All assistance greatly appreciated.

Regards,  Ian.
