I did just the same! :-)

I guess we have to wait until the "run" is over. Last summer I could have bought one for less than 300 $ (but not in such great condition)

The location for drilling the mounting hole can be determined by looking inside the door.  The brace across the top of the door has holes for the mirror mounting screws.

Do not make my mistake; I mounted the mirror to match the left door.  The mirror was too far forward and the A pillar blocks a part of the mirror.  When moved back to the correct location the view is much better.

Oh, good point. Thanks.

Another question that interests me is: What did they do to get that nice finish on the front side of the mirror?
And also the power window plate has that finish.

Looks fine to me!

BTW, right side remote mirrors, via the joystick wire, were not available until 1971, and these had the control on the right side of the inner dash surround. That was a long control cable. Electric mirrors were still several years out.

uhh - that left front fender seems to be a tough job! (at least to me)
Hope the painter can pull this off!

I also have some dings and imperfections, but my painter said he would need to paint the whole panel. Maybe some time I will do that. But it can wait.

Kind regards,
Nicolas

David,

Thanks for sharing.  I am curious about the match of color. We ended up painting all of mine because the Normandy Blue was just a little off. Looks like they painted to the fender ridge and it looks great.  I'm sure you are pleased to have it done.

Hood ornament looks very nice.

Glad you removed the old hood ornament and filled the holes.  The stand up looks pretty good David!

No harder than the right fender top I would imagine.  LOL

Hi David,
Well, it appeared to me that the also prepared the top of the front left fender. But maybe that just looked that way.
(picture a few posts before/above).

But anyway: looks good! I like this "changing" color! And nice car too.

Kind regards,

David,

Now that you have had time to live with the new hood paint job, what do you think? Looks good in the photos..

I'm still not much of a stand up hood ornament guy, but your car pulls it off just fine , now that the lower ornament is gone.

I'm waiting for a rebuilt carburetor to arrive, and mine goes to a few gatherings later this month.

Any chance of scanning and posting the article?

Rob Troxel

I sure appreciated the hard work in posting this article.  I did not realize these cars were in such demand when new but can see why as the design is one of the best ever!

Glen

Sorry, that bullet hole does not look real to me.  It is too big and the metal is not distorted like it was shot.  That hole looks drilled to me.  I would want to look behind it.

Maybe the original hole was repaired by the body shop and someone recreated it.

I blew up the picture of the bullet hole.
Looks like it has all sorts of bubbles around it, and the edge is rusty.

David,

Thanks for posting the pictures of the 66 Riviera GS and the 68 Toro.  In my opinion the 66-67 Riviera was one of the most fluidly designed cars ever.  I owned a 67 Riviera GS in a deep red color.  To this day that car design is a show stopper.  Mine had the factory headrests, buckets and console.  You mentioned the headlight arrangement on the Riv and I can tell you it was far more efficient than what we have on the Eldorado's!  There is an easy to access Electric motor for smooth actuation for the moving headlights.  My headlights always worked well and firmly seated downward, in the open position and yes they were always aimed as they should be.  Keep in mind, my car was only 3 years old then but I'd much prefer the electric over the kludgy  vacuum set up we have on the Eldos.

As for the Toro, I don't much care for the 68 plus version>>they screwed up the front end.  In my eyes the 67 Toro is the one to have, due to the smoother front grill and headlights. The only other car that came close would be the 67-68 Eldorado's.  As you know, my vote goes for the 68  Eldorado as the cleanest front end and the best looking tail lights.

Rob Troxel

David,

Thanks for doing this.  I agree that the black Eldo's WW were just too wide. Let us know hat you hear.  Can they do this in a radial tire.? My car handles so much better with the radial.

Walter Youshock

Like duplicating the Royal Seals and Vogue now has an issue with?  I'm sure the tire can be duplicated.
