Cleaning up the adjustable lower fender brackets. These were very rusty. I left them in acid overnight before bead blasting.

So much corrosion was eaten away that I will need to cut off the weld nuts and install some new ones.

I got my square nuts. I will need to cut the old ones off, Strip the plating from the new nuts, then weld in place.

I will also need to use these to make a new pair of retainers.

I picked up my side window tracks and guides from the sandblaster today. I will drop them off at the zinc plater sometime next week.

Included in that is the shaft for my jack. I had the gear head powdercoated and ready to put back on.

And I got my repaired battery hold down back from the powder coater. Someone asked me if I could try to make a complete reproduction. I may do that some time when I have down time. 20241101_153318.jpg

The castings are different but both have the same part number 4622 stamped on the side.

Someday when I have extra cash these will got to Arthur Gould for rebuild.

 Hey Carl

This plating process that you have, have you tried plating any carburetor parts, mainly the fuel bowls and air-horns?
I'm in the middle of a Quadrajet and just pulled it out of the cleaner and the cleaner has stripped the coating off of the castings.
I was wondering if I could use the same system that you have for re-plating these pieces, or if I need to send them to someone like a rebuilder.

I spent over a $1000 building my system. And that was 7 years ago. The chemicals are more expensive now. For $400 or maybe less you can have a carb rebuilder go through your carb replating and rebuilding and maybe testing and tuning.

I used a company called Custom Rebuilt Carbs

Now if you are completly disassembling and rebuilding your carb yourself, if you mail me the parts you want plated i will do it for free.

Yes, I'm completely disassembling it. Now I'm not sure if the cleaner removed the coating, or just discolored it, it's hard to tell. After cleaning off the film that was on it, it now looks like it was polished.
If it is gone, then I would like to take you up on your offer, that's very generous of you, thank you.
I'll let you know if I need it re-plated then. I  do kinda like the polished look though.

Checking through these parts for any areas the blaster missed. One had dried grease in the track that did not get cleaned out. And checking through all of my door containers I found one more part I had missed.

I plan to drop these off at the plater tomorrow after I vote.

Drop off at the platers done. The last time I dropped off parts here it was only a one day turn around.

Finally got these fixed up. Not perfect but great for what they are.

David Greenburg. I wanted to share with you some information on one of my exhaust hangers. This is the masticated rubber through the frame.

Parts book. Universal picture.

Installed to frame. Note the square corner tucks in the frame rail and the angle cut fits to the outside of the frame.

To David again. 1961 Forward Headlight Harness I made myself. From Lectric limited this is the same price as the underhood headlight harness. But the underhood harness has more wire.

IMG_20240123_185024640.jpg

Me laying out and making the wires off of the original. The hardest part was the terminals for the headlights they were a type 59 flag connector which are no longer available. I found a european flag connector I think an H4 that I modified to work.

Here is all that is left of my underhood harness. Half the wires were eaten away by rodents. I hope this is enough of a core for Lectric limited to make me a new harness. I do not have enough remaining for me to make my own.

Carl- thanks for this info and the  pictures. FYI, the '61 with its single exhaust has larger diameter pipes than the '59-'60 and earlier with duals.

When Phyllis first spoke to me.

Years ago as I was working through taking my car apart, I put power to random rodent eaten wires on the fire wall. Well apparently the radio was on, because it started playing a gospel radio station. This was my cars Christine moment.

Well i had hoped to just buy restored door hinge bolts from Jason Edge rather then work through mine. But now that jason has them restored and listed i see those bolts from 63/64 are different from 61. Not only are they different combinations they are also 18tpi when 61 is 24tpi.

So now i have to work through mine.
20241109_164824.jpg
Some were cross threaded so i had to chase all the threads. But here you can really tell which three were my passenger front door lower bolts. Mice made a nest filling the door. So the bottom three were rough. 20241109_195050.jpg

Well it is going quickly. But I have to run all of these through a tap before plating. Some were cross threaded and that added to some head damage. If any are to bad I will steal them from my parts car.

The best thing about any restoration or repair is having a parts car for those hard-to-get bits.

Another reason why when I strip any car, I save everything that is good.   This is why my garage is full of good stuff.

I picked up my parts from the platers. They lost one piece. A small rear door track. It says it is the same for all sedans to 64. So either I rip the door panel off my parts car. Or I ask Jason Edge for one.

Now i need to collect window felt and run channels. And rollers.
