Thanks Carl... I've stayed away from gas filled shocks, and much prefer the hydraulics... leave me wondering why the gas are flooding the market.

Good choice to stay away from Gas-filled shocks on a standard car.   These tend to raise the vehicle's ride height.

As for why Gas are flooding the market, I would say that they are cheaper to actually make, even though they have Gas inside them.   Not many people would want standard shocks so the market would be less.   More sales equals more profit.

So I started cleaning a door. I have not touched the doors fenders or hood in 7 years.

They are going to need some clean up and bodywork. But I have a question about the holes for the weather stripping.

Some of my holes still have the plastic inserts in them. Do I need to save these, or will the new weatherstripping come with them.

The weatherstrips will come with the pins, without the plastic inserts. I don't know if they are available separately.

The plastic inserts can be bought individually on ebay or through vendors from what I can tell.  You might have to modify the gaskets slightly but that shouldn't take too much work.

I finally sanded and primed the areas that were covered up by my rotisserie.

Now I am ready to paint the firewall and work to get the body back on the frame. I might paint this tonight.

In anticipation,  I opened one of my gallons of paint to see what I am working with. This is the thickest automotive paint I have worked with. It does get reduced 1 to 1. So I am initially very hopeful for my coverage.

The color coat is on. Clear coat soon.

I was a little worried with how high these rollers stand. But this rolls nice.

With getting the clearcoat on today, I will be able to take down half my spray booth and start positioning my body and frame on Sunday. After I finish brakes and shocks I can drop it down.

The paint went down great with a 1.3 tip. I think for the clearcoat on body I will use a 1.5.

It was a little to dry spraying it. But good enough for hidden parts.


I will need to spend some time cleaning my shop to get ready to marry the body to frame.

Ok half the booth is down. The other walls are in whole sections and the plastick is just pulled back.

After I clean and line the body and frame up to reinstall, I will put the door and filter wall back on.

Things to do before putting body on frame.

Check all bolts torque.
Grease U joints.
Fill rear end with gear oil.
Install shocks.
Flexible brake lines.

Bonus credit for
Reassemble rear brakes
Fuel tank

They are getting better about leaving me alone. In the past I would remove a lug nut and set it on the floor while taking off a tire, to turn around and find the lug nut gone.

I ripped the bandaid and ordered those hydraulic shocks. They will be weeks to arrive. But I want to get that body back on the frame so that I can drop my movie screen down again in March.

I need to order flexible brake lines and wheel cylinders after next pay day. But those should be quicker to arrive.

Well my order said 3 weeks to make those Hydraulic shocks. But I just got a shipping notification saying they will be here Thursday. They must have already had a set ready. That is great.

Just putsing around after work today.

I finally got the pin out of this hinge. The original bushings were plastic and had welded the pin in place. This was the worst one. So some success.

The new bushings are a tight fit. I like that. I will not actually install these until I completly clean the hinge.

I cannot remember if I restored the captured nut retainers for these supports, or if they were damaged. But either way I have not found them in my boxes.

I have time to search a little more. But I may have to make a set.
